HAITI! THE DAY EVERYTHING FELL APART!

Haiti! The day everything fell apart!

I watched in disbelief and awe as the earthquake shook and shattered the buildings and everything around us without a pause! Unbelievable, but in the short time it took to pass, it had sought out and destroyed our hope, dreams and joys!
There was much devastation, death and decay as it wrecked our homes, destroying lives, furnishing, clothing, memorabilia and every other valuable thing! Vehicles were crushed, livestock too; that nothing at all was spared was true!
We lost parents, grandparents, great grandparents, husbands, wives, loved ones, children, siblings, many other family members, relatives and friends, neighbours went missing, so did our colleagues, workers and co-workers too!
Communication was cut, no telephone, radio or television sound could be heard! The airport, sea port, and roadways were badly damaged! The presidential palace, house of parliament, police and military institution ruined!
Oh my God, what a catastrophe, no shopping malls, office buildings, hotels or schools were left standing! No hospitals left to help the sick, no churches to inter the dead, everything completely destroyed, only total chaos everywhere instead!
There was so much blood and mangled bodies amidst the dust, in the aftermath of this horrific and horrendous crush! The dead and injured were lying here, there and everywhere; the disoriented, dazed and untouched were all running around in fear!
Then we heard the sobbing, crying and wailing as it filled the air; so piercing, stark and crystal clear, my God it seemed so surreal and drear; as the injured cried out for help; from underneath the rubble and almost everywhere!
We used our hands and feet, pieces of board, a stone or even a sign from the street;, but we never gave up hope we just kept on digging, as we toiled hard to save all those we could, no matter the turmoil and strife that within all of us stood!
Many had died instantly, others took their last breath right before our eyes, countless numbers groaned and suffered in anguish before they died! We saved as many as we could, pulling them out by their head, torso or feet! Yes, another soul barely alive was in the street!
The living sought to understand, they quietly whisper, dear God we have suffered enough, for our blood has been spilt from time immemorial to today's ill! Their voices rang out; this was too much, why Haiti lord? As they tried to make some sense of the onslaught!
Who would have thought that January 12, 2010 would have brought to Haiti this colossal demonstration of unbelievable wrath and fury, leaving millions of people completely distraught and the rest with a broken heart! Not knowing just how to begin or where to restart!
